When it’s time to sit down and get to work on your new website, there are many things that you’ll need to consider. Not only will you have to think about how to get traffic to your website and how many photos you’ll use, but you’ll also need to consider programming languages and web hosting. If you’re ready to start the website design process, here are some tips to keep in mind before you begin.
- Do a layout first. You may want to storyboard a layout to decide on the right ratios and content placement. This is best done in collaboration with the website designer, programmer, and writer. Sit down with the people involved in the process and decide which important elements should go where on your website.
- Decide which programming language you will use. You should do this very early in the process. The graphic designer and the web programmer should decide the programming languages based on what you want the website to do. For example, most website use some form of HTML, but if you want animation on your website, you’ll need to use Flash, as well. Think about what you want your site to do, what code you may already be using in the company, and any server restrictions.
- Next, decide on hosting. Are you going to use a free hosting service or are you going to go with a fee-based service. Which hosting service you choose depends on the type of traffic you anticipate, if you want third-party advertisements on your page, and how much server space you’ll need.
Keep these three tips in mind as you begin planning for your new website. If you do, you’ll run into fewer problems as you start designing. Make the decisions that need to be made first and then let the creativity flow.
