Your coursework should include classes such as digital imaging, design fundamentals, programming basics, web scripting and other similar classes.

Once you’ve completed your coursework, you are well on your way to a new career as a web designer or programmer

What Programming Languages Should I Learn for My Career?

You can’t start a career in computer programming before you learn to use some of the most popular programming languages. Once you start exploring your educational options, you will find that you have several languages to consider.

C++

Most traditional and online Bachelors programs will start new programmers with C++. You can use this language in numerous contexts, so it makes sense to have experience with it regardless of whether you plan to program with C++ or another language.

C++ classes should also train you to use a compiler such as Microsoft’s Visual C++ or GNU Compiler Collection.

Java

Java has earned a reputation as one of the most useful computer languages around, especially for people who work in areas such as mobile phone apps and Internet development. Java looks similar to C++, but it allows developers to embed applets into other programs. This has led to its becoming a popular language to make browser and phone apps.

Many programmers also like Java because of its small size and fast speed. It doesn’t have a lot of unnecessary baggage slowing it down, so it can perform functions quickly.

Visual Basic

Programmers at Microsoft updated the BASIC programming language to create Visual Basic, a language that allows designers the flexibility to create small applications or complex pieces of software. You will probably only use Visual Basic if you work for a company that produces software for Microsoft. Consider Microsoft’s size, though, you have a pretty good chance of working with them at some point, so you might as well learn the language now.

These days the world of software design is moving in a whole new direction. Long gone are the days of developing the biggest most epic games on the market.
