How a Laptop Per Student Could Change the Classroom

Most of those who work in the technology industry did not grow up with computers. For those who did, they were typically small computers with black and white screens (probably around 10 inches on the diagonal) that were mostly used for word processing and simple games like Solitaire. The world of technology has changed so much in the last 30 years. Now computers are vastly different and have revolutionized the world. It’s also affected how children can be taught and what they need to learn in order to be successful.

Some schools have taken on this challenge by providing laptops for their students; having the same laptop with the same programs for each of the students is a great benefit because it allows the teacher to know exactly how the computer works (since it can vary from one model and operating system to another) so he or she can best help the students. By having the same programs on the laptop, teachers can plan lessons using those programs, which helps students understand the use of technology in all subject areas.

Teachers today understand technology much better than the previous generation of teachers. Some have even earned online education degrees, which require the use of computers and the Internet in order to complete classes. These teachers are specially positioned to use technology in the classroom and teach their students how to use technology.

With how the world is changing, it won’t be surprising if issueing one laptop per student is as standard as issuing textbooks in 30 years.
